Transrotor vs Pro-Ject: Two Different Approaches to Vinyl – A Clear Conclusion
Gioulos Panayotis, the visionary mind behind Aktyna, once again sets new standards in acoustics.
Transrotor ZET 1: A Jewel of Analog Playback
In just a few years, the Transrotor ZET 1 and zet 3 have become the brand's two signature models. With its shiny acrylic and aluminium appearance and uniquely shaped design, the zet leaves nothing to be desired.
The Zet 1 has this magical side to it, which is linked to its simple chassis, the combination of the different bass, midrange and treble ranges gives a perfect balance that is somewhat lost on the Zet 3. This is due to the mass of the zet 3 chassis which tends to emphasize the bass and treble to the detriment of the midrange.
But there is a solution!
The position of the motor on the Zet 3 chassis makes the bass and treble a little louder than the midrange. If you place the motor in the cut-out on the left side of the turntable. The sound is a bit quieter and smoother; I mean it's not as profiled anymore. I think this is a good idea for anyone with a ZET3 who wants to rebalance the mids - just buy a motor mount (cylinder).
In terms of sound reproduction, they also more than live up to the expectations one might have of a model in this area.
With its new TRA9 or Rega tone arm, its Uccello or Merlo cartridge, but also thanks to its motor and remote power supply, the Zet plays with the fluidity that characterises it so well.
The Transrotor Zet offers a superb and emotional spatial image and impressively demonstrates the possibilities that this iconic turntable has to offer.
The most striking thing about this model is that once the cartridge is placed on the vinyl record, the Zet plays with great fluidity and is free of sizzling and groove noise, which immediately gives a great sense of fulfilment. Of course, this also depends on the condition of the vinyl, but it is thanks to this absence of noise that listening becomes a real pleasure, without disturbance or buzzing, the acoustics of a good recording provides a unique experience. Moreover, some recordings are equipped with a reverberation that can in some cases transport the listener beyond the listening space, to a much greater depth "that's the Transrotor magic!
Of course, those who wish to further enhance the pleasure of this model can refine the Zet's acoustics with various options, but the basic version (RB 330 and uccello cell) already offers first-rate musical reproduction.
No wonder the Zet models have become the two most popular models of the brand in a very short time.
