Transrotor ZET 1: A Jewel of Analog Playback
The EUTERPE works as an amp, preamplifier and DAC, and even has a stand for your headphones.
At the heart of the Euterpe is an XMOS USB DAC and a Sabre ESS chipset, which drives DSD 64 and DSD 128, and delivers PCM playback at up to 32-bit/384 kHz.
The power supply is located at the rear of the unit to prevent noise. The Euterpe is supplied with 1m of high quality cabling, which contributes to the clarity of the sound.
The output connections allow the Euterpe to be connected to an amplifier system for use as a preamp. A single 6.3mm jack for the audio, many other high-end DACs and amplifiers currently being released follow this principle.
Two PL95 tubes and one ECC 81 tube accompany the Euterpe. You can also use the PL95s as EL95s with a selector switch.
The DAC is located in the centre between two solid wood panels. The whole thing rests on a bevelled metal base which gives it an incomparable and very classy design. A device that will not leave anyone indifferent.
Working as a DAC or a tube amp, the Euterpe is equipped with USB and RCA inputs. Connection from a computer system is very easy.
The Euterpe drives install automatically when switched on.
The DAC is impressively clear, with lots of detail providing a very enveloping sound.
The tubes soften the midrange slightly, which avoids the shimmering sound and gives a deep, warm and colourful sound with lots of substance. The Euterpe is captivating and it is easy to be carried away by the music.
The amplifier part of the Euterpe is adjustable for headphones with an impedance of less than 150 ohms as well as more than 150 ohms. This means that the Euterpe can drive any headphones as well as most planar magnetic headphones. The tubes add organic warmth to the planar. An incomparable sound and above all a fantastic duo.
The sound quality is impressive, there is never a lack of detail and the top end of the spectrum is softened, "the tube effect", apart from the literary description, it's all about the feel and the way that is perceived in each track.
If you are looking for a very chiseled sound resolution, skip it. Lovers of the warm sound of the tube will love the Euterpe from the very first notes.
Its sound quality alone is a good reason to buy the Auris Euterpe, but beyond the sound, its construction is simply unique. The Euterpe is a work of art in its own right.
Although there are many competitors at this price point. Headphone enthusiasts who want more adjustment will opt for other models.
However, not everyone needs to adjust their headphones endlessly and not everyone likes transistor amplification. If you do, the Auris Euterpe is the ideal amp, as detailed as it is beautiful.
A good balance would be headphones in the region of 1500 euros or more combined with the Euterpe, the TOP! The Auris Euterpe's mesmerizing sound, exemplary workmanship and multiple possibilities make it an excellent value for money. If you are looking for a lot of power and a rich sound, give it a try!
