Nagaoka MP-150: the elliptical stylus to awaken your turntable

  • Superfine elliptical stylus: a 0.4 x 0.7 mil profile that follows the groove more finely than a conical stylus, for clearer highs.
  • Hardened aluminum alloy cantilever: conical and hardened, it gains rigidity for accurate reading.
  • Generous 4.5 mV output: compatible with any MM phono input, with a good level reserve.
  • Its warm and dynamic sound: a rich midrange, precise attacks and great transparency.
  • Replaceable diamond: the original JN-P150 assembly can be easily changed, without disassembling the cell.

Nagaoka MP-150: a versatile and musical MP cartridge

Located at the heart of Nagaoka's MP series, the MP-150 represents an ideal evolution from the cartridges supplied with many turntables. It is based on the Moving Permalloy principle: a very lightweight permalloy element replaces the moving magnet of a conventional MM cartridge, while the magnets and coils remain fixed within the body. This reduces the moving mass and allows the stylus to react more freely to groove modulations. With its 4.5 mV output, it connects directly to any MM phono input.

Sound signature and everyday use

The MP-150 combines a superfine 0.4 x 0.7 mil elliptical stylus with a hardened aluminum alloy conical cantilever. The conical shape removes material where it's less needed, while the hardening treatment increases rigidity. The result is a warm, transparent sound with a rich midrange, precise attacks, and well-balanced bass, without harshness in the treble. Its standard half-inch mounting and 6.5g weight make it easy to install on most tonearms.

Key features of the Nagaoka MP-150

  • Elliptical stylus: a narrower reading radius than a conical stylus, to better follow the short modulations of the groove.
  • Hardened conical cantilever: a lighter and stiffer structure that faithfully transmits the movements of the point.
  • High output level: 4.5 mV for excellent signal/noise ratio with MM phono preamps.
  • Simple installation: half-inch mounting, 47 kΩ load and 1.5 to 2.0 g support force.
  • Durability: The JN-P150 replacement diamond retains the same elliptical tip and cantilever.
