Nagaoka MP-MONO: a cartridge dedicated to monophonic listening

The MP-MONO is a monophonic cartridge developed by Nagaoka based on its Moving Permalloy generator, the same one used in the entire MP series. Instead of a moving magnet, a very lightweight permalloy element moves within a fixed magnetic circuit, reducing moving mass and allowing the stylus to track the groove more freely. With its 4 mV output, it connects directly to any MM phono input.

Sound signature and everyday use

Supplied with the JN-PMONO 0.7E stylus, featuring a 0.4 x 0.7 mil elliptical diamond bonded to an aluminum alloy cantilever, the MP-MONO is optimized for mono records cut to modern standards and for contemporary reissues. Nagaoka describes it as offering a clear, well-defined, and high-resolution image. Since not all mono records were cut in the same way, a second stylus, the JN-PMONO 1.0E with a 0.5 x 1.0 mil stylus, is offered as an option for older pressings.
