The Phono II had been successful for many years, until company boss Jochen Räke and his son Dirk found it necessary to redesign it. A six millimetre thick cast aluminium housing with a thick polished front panel.

The interior construction is clean with high quality components. Coil capacitors are installed in the signal path. Transrotor uses the Audyn Q2.

In addition, there are two switches to switch the phono preamplifier from MM to MC to match the cartridge in use.

The switches are set to 47 kiloohms by default and therefore perfect for each MM cell.

The input sensitivity can be set to two levels, very useful for both MM and MC systems. The MC part is even more extensive. Here the input sensitivity can be adjusted from 0.15 to 0.5 millivolts in six steps and the final impedance from 65 to 500 ohms in seven steps.

This should allow any cartridge on the market to be fitted neatly. The phono stage will have to be opened each time for the adjustment of new cells.

In this price range, most phonos are suitable for both MM and MC systems, there are only a few that are limited to one mode.
Often the MC part is optimised to the detriment of the MM part, because most audiophiles in this price range use MC systems and only make very little use of the MM part. This is far from being the case with the Phono III.

Everything is musically perfect

There is pure music and emotion and the Phono III provides maximum spatial image. The Transrotor can therefore do MM, and really, very well and certainly has nothing to fear from its competitors in the category of 1000 euro phono stages.

The MC part of the Phono III tends towards an extremely high neutrality. The bass, midrange and treble are neither over nor under-exposed and the ends of the frequency spectrum seem to be very wide, both up and down.

If you are looking for a phono preamplifier that sounds good and is flexibly adaptable and you don't want to spend a fortune on it, you should take a look at and especially listen to the Transrotor Phono III without delay. In addition to a perfect finish and a sober design, the Phono III offers the possibility to connect MM and MC systems in a very flexible way.
