Cartdridge

MM Cartdridge
Moving magnet cells, more commonly known as MM cells, are the most widespread.
These turntable cartridges are the most popular because they are the easiest to produce, which makes them less expensive.
Their output level (over 2mV) makes them compatible with most phono preamplifiers on the market.
MM cells are characterised by the possibility of removing and replacing their diamond in the event of breakage or when their lifespan has come to an end.
These cells have an average stylus life of around 600 to 700 hours of use, depending on the model.

MC Cartdridge
MC Cartdridges, or moving coil Cartdridges, are more advanced and more powerful than MM Cartdridges, but also more expensive. There are two types of MC cartridge for turntables: low-level MC cartridges and high-level MC cartridges.
 
Low-level MC Cartdridges
Low-level MC Cartdridges have a low output level (0.5mV), so the phono preamplifier must be adapted to this level. If the diamond breaks, you can't change it - you'll have to buy the whole cell again.

High-level MC Cartdridges
According to their name, high-level MC Cartdridges have a high output level, similar to that of MM Cartdridges (over 2 mV). They are therefore compatible with most phono preamplifiers. If the diamond breaks, it cannot be replaced and a new Cartdridge must be purchased.
